What is this you call property? It cannot be the earth, for the land is our mother, nourishing all her children, beasts, birds, fish and all men. The woods, the streams, everything on it belongs to everybody and is for the use of all. How can one man say it belongs only to him?

-Massasoit (1581-1661),
Chief of the Wampanoag Confederacy
of modern-day New England
For over 50 years, the Cragsmoor Association has served as a steward of the community, working with local government and partner organizations to protect Cragsmoor's natural beauty, environment, and quality of life. The Association's chief function is to manage Bear Hill Preserve, a 50-acre gem known for its dramatic views and rich biodiversity which draws thousands of visitors annually. The Preserve offers valuable insight into the ecosystems and landscapes that define the Shawangunk Ridge.
Each year, the Cragsmoor Association holds its annual meeting in July and organizes the Bear Fair, its summer fundraising event for the community.
